Alpinestars TECH-AIR® Size Charts

Tech-Air 3

Tech-Air® 3 has been designed to be worn over a protective jacket and can also be worn under a properly fitting protective jacket.

TECH-AIR® 3 MEASUREMENT METHOD

Please take the chest measurement, based on how you plan to wear the System. Once you have taken the measurement, consult the size guide below to determine the correct size for your Tech-Air® 3 System.

1. FOR WEARING OVER AN ALPINESTARS JACKET

If you already own an Alpinestars jacket and you plan to wear the Tech-Air® 3 on the outside of the jacket, the recommended size for your Tech-Air® 3 System should be the exact size of the Alpinestars jacket that you plan to wear underneath the Tech-Air® 3 System. For example, if you wear a size L Neo Waterproof Hoodie, then the correct Tech-Air® 3 size for you should be a size L.

2. MEASUREMENT FOR WEARING OVER THE JACKET

If you plan to wear the Tech-Air® 3 on the outside of the jacket, then you need to take measurement “A” while wearing the jacket.

WARNING

* Tech-Air® 3 in size “S” or below must not in any case be worn under a protective outer garment.

* If Tech-Air® 3 is worn under the protective jacket, the customer has to make sure the jacket allows enough space for a safe Tech-Air® deployment as per instructions in the manual p23 /24.

(Providing 4cm of space around the circumference of the upper body to accommodate the Airbag inflation or using the formula described in the p23 of the manual)

* Tech-Air® 3 in sizes “M” or larger shall be worn with a Tech-Air® Ready Alpinestars outer garment of the same size of the System or with any Alpinestars outer garment that is not Tech-Air® Ready provided that the size of the Alpinestars outer garment is one size larger than the size of the System or, regardless of whether it is an Alpinestars outer garment or not, meets the following criteria:

For the chest area, measure the circumference of the chest (A) and the garment width on the chest region (A1).

The garment is compatible with Tech-Air® 3 System if A1 > 0.5 x A + 12 cm / A1 > 0.5 x A + 4.72 in (see figure 1 below)

* The Tech-Air® 3 System must ALWAYS be used with a properly fitting outer garment to the user’s appropriate body size. Use of the System inside an incorrectly sized outer garment, or with an outer garment that is not compliant with the size check recommendations above, may result in the System malfunctioning or failure and injury, including severe injury and/or death.

SIZING & FITTING INFORMATION RELATED TO THE BACK PROTECTOR

The Tech-Air® 7x System is equipped with a non-removable passive Back Protector that provides protection to the back area even if the System should not deploy. The Back Protector is sized by ‘Waist to Shoulder length’, which is measured from the waistline on the back to the junction of the shoulder and the neck at the highest point.

When selecting the System, check that the System’s integrated Back Protector is correctly fitting. A correctly fitting Back Protector must not be touching your neck when you tilt your head backwards. If the Back Protector touches your neck when you tilt your head backwards, this is a sign that the Back Protector of the System is too big and may interfere with the helmet, resulting in a dangerous riding condition. If this is the case, the System is unsuitable for you and must not be used by you.

Base Layer Size International Size (Men) User’s Waist to Shoulder Length
XS 44–46 41cm (16.1") to 46cm (18.1")
S 46–48 41cm (16.1") to 46cm (18.1")
M 48–50 46cm (18.1") to 51cm (20.1")
L 50–52 46cm (18.1") to 51cm (20.1")
XL 52–56 46cm (18.1") to 51cm (20.1")
2XL 56–58 46cm (18.1") to 51cm (20.1")

WARNING

* Tech-Air® 7x must be used with an outer protective garment as the vest is NOT abrasion resistant.

* Provided that the correct sizing is selected, the System can be used with all Alpinestars’ Tech-Air® Compatible Garments and Alpinestars’ new generation of Tech-Air® Ready garments. The Tech-Air® Compatible Garments and Tech-Air® Ready garments are designed with stretch panels to accommodate the inflated Airbag after deployment.

* The System can be used with any abrasion resistant garment designed for motorcycle riding. If the System is used with an Outer Garment not specifically designed by Alpinestars for Tech-Air® Systems, the user must ensure that the Outer Garment has sufficient inner volume to accommodate the deployed airbag as follows: measure the circumference of the chest (A) and the garment width on the chest region (A1). The garment is compatible with Tech-Air® 7x System if A1 > 0.5 x A + 14cm (A1 > 0.5 x A + 5.51 in). For the Shoulders area (B), be sure that the suit can be raised up 4 cm without creating any discomfort.

* The Tech-Air® 7x must ALWAYS be used with a correctly fitting Outer Garment of the User’s appropriate body size. Use of the System with an incorrectly sized Outer Garment, or not compliant with the size check recommendations above, may result in the System malfunction or failure and injury, including severe injury and/or death.

Tech-Air MX

The System is available in sizes ranging from S to 2XL. Each size is characterized by a specific waist-to-shoulder length of the User as shown in Figure 19. Waist to Shoulder Length (WSL) is an important parameter for the choice of the right size of Back Protector (4). The User should always be sure to use a protector with a WSL that matches his/her measurements.

Refer to Section 21, “Certification Information” for the details on the WSL for each size of the Tech-Air® MX System.

It is imperative that the System is fitted correctly, in order to provide the maximum potential protection to the User, in the event of an accident. To help in selecting the correct size of the System, the User may refer to the Tech-Air® System Size Guide provided in Table 2 below, which provides the reference measurements of the body for each System’s size, as well as Figure 20, “Body Measurement Locations.” Note that these measurements are provided as general suggestions, and are references based on Men’s general sizes (without any discriminatory intention), and should be properly adapted to the individual User’s specific measurements.
